VII. The Where, the How

Tomorrow I wont be at home, so the Memnento Mori update comes already today. The three new pages are located here:

Castra Praetoria

Castra Praetoria

Again I took the pictures for the composing of the establishing shots in my favourite Roman museum.
For the rest of the scene I used a simple modur wall in the background.

Castra Praetoria

The two new introduced figures are from Ignite. Sulpicius Asper got a new Dragon head (Moore/Gibson). Gavius Silvanus is the original Ignite figure. Actually Silvanus was a tribune.

Nero on Stage

The stage set is a quick and dirty improvisation. The Nero head sculpt was done by Chan Ada. Tigellinus is the Andrea head by Twisting Toyz. The inspiration for the scene came from the annales of Tacitus.

VI. Ambush

This is the last chapter of the Britannia flashback. It centers more on Lucius Trebonius. In the end of the chapter we return to the main plot. Find the four new pages here:
English version
German version

Making of:No changes here. This is again the Britannia set only with more trees and plants in it. I took my usual f/x make-up technique. For the killing of the blonde barbarian I used an old plastic blade, stuck to the derma-wax.

New figures: The shouting legionaire is a custom head. It was an ebay find in Spain. Then we have Kurt Russel as the first barbarian and a Jakks Pacific wrestler head on a Hot Toys muscle body for the shouting blonde guy.

The last page takes us back to the campfire. Nothing new to discribe here, apart from a different light and more fog for the next morning pictures. The last two images are composings based on a picture of the model of a Roman city gate. I took the picture last year in a museum in Rome.

Summer Wine

Here is my sunday girl for this week. I wanted to do something that looks like late 60s early 70s promotion pictures. This is the result.

The figure is the Cy Girl Mystere (bbi)
The “London” wig is from this wig shop

V. Watling Street

Part 5 is online now. This is the second part of the Britannia flashback. See 6 new pages about the battle at Watling Street.

1. Watling Stret

watling street

Making of: This is again the living room floor set. Only some trees changed their positions. Most of the pictures on the first page of the scene were taken in the weekend shooting. So, thanks again to Chris and Peter for their support. Again I did a little F/X make-up work using derma-wax and movie-blood. But this scene turned out not as bloody as the last one.

New Characters/Figures: Suetonius is a Hannibal Lecter custom head. I found it on ebay. The Syrian archer is Saïd Taghmaoui (unknown Brand) The Slinger is Che Guevara (DID)

History: Here is the Wikipedia Link to Battle of Watling Street:

2. Boudicca’s Funeral

Making of: same set, different light and angle. I closed her eyes by using an image of a real person.

History: There are two different versions about Boudicca’s death. Tacitus wrote she poisoned herself. Cassius Dio said she died on a disease. I followed Tacitus’ version. See the Wikipedia entry about Boudicca

3. The New Legate

Making of: For the tent I just threw a piece of suede over three Styrofoam blocks. I added the sign of Legio XX in postproduction. Unfortunately I couldn’t find the sign of Legio XIV. So there is only the Legio XX vexillum in the scene.

Figures: For the tribunes I used the Hot Toys Christian Bale/John Conner head and a Brad Pitt head. Turpilianus is Ariel Sharon by Soldier Story. The three soldiers in the camp are from Dragon, DID and Triad Toys. And I couldn’t resist to give my MiniMe a little cameo.

IV. Boudicca

Part 4 is online now.
english version
german version

To be true, the whole Britannia scenes are not really necessary for the main story, but hey – you are watching the extended version ;-) I’m sure some of you really love to see Boudicca to show up in the story. And I was eager for shooting some fighting pictures with my Roman Soldiers and some barbarians.
A little warning: This is a hardboiled chapter with sex, violence and a lot of blood in it. NSFW.

1. Landscape.
Making of: This is the living room floor set I’d built for the weekend shooting with Peter and Chris. The scene is a quick improvisation, just two posters in the background, some brown canvas on the floor, some dirt on it and some of the plants from my jungle.

Figures: for Boudicca I used a Hot Toys True-Type Body,. I’m not sure about her head. I cut off her hair and gave her a red wig. Under the extras you will find a lot of familiar faces , like the musicians from my rock band project. I have to thank Chris and Peter for bringing in their barbarians and Roman soldiers.

History: The Boudicca Revolt occurred in 61 AD. The first part of the Boudicca speech (row 1) is from Tacitus the second part was put by Cassius Dio into Boudicca’s mouth.

2.Camulodunum & Londinium Streets.
Making of: This is again a simple tabletop set with the Roman streets, wallpapers in the background and some additional props. For the wounds I took derma-wax and a lot of movie-blood came into use.

Figures: Rapist – Jack Torrance (Subway Toys), Roman Girl – Hot Toys True Type, Extras – Dragon.

Aiko and a strange little guy

Did you ever ask yourself, why Aiko is so damn pissed off?

III. Campfire Tales

This week there is an update with only two pages. Don’t worry, in the future you will find some updates with 5 and 6 pages as well.
German version
English version

campfire tales

Making of: The set was built on my living room floor. I used the streets from the Subura set and some of my fake trees for it. The Roman travel carriage was introduced some months ago.
For the night look I used again the blue foil and my fog machine. For the shine of the fire I worked with some little orange LED spots. The fire itself came in post-production to he scene.

new figures: for Kaeso I used the ACI Russell Crowe Head. Vespasianus is again a Chan Ada Headsculpt. The figure was in one of my teasers as well.

History: Titus Flavius Vespasianus will become emperor in 69AD. If you like to read more about him, here is the Wikipedia link.
